Betaine
Betaine is a quaternary ammonium alkaloid, which is an efficient, high-quality, economical, and widely used nutritional additive for livestock, poultry and aquatic animals. By its ability to act as a protective osmolyte, betaine relieves heat stress as indicated for example by lower rectal temperatures and less panting behaviour in broilers. Reduction of the heat stress in animals promotes their feed intake and helps in maintaining performance. By reducing mortality and litter moisture, betaine is a useful tool for producers to improve overall layer liveability.
